POSTOPERATIVE CARE IN RHINOPLASTY
1. If you did not have any complications after surgery and had an operation before noon, you can be discharged the same day in the evening
2. It is good to have a companion with you for the first day
3. When you go home after discharge, there may be nausea or vomiting in the vehicle due to movement. Bleeding may appear for a few minutes after vomiting. This is an expected situation.
4. Apply the directions that will be shown after the surgery
Immediately after the operation, ice application should be started for 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute break.
Your head should be at least 45°C higher when lying down. For the first week, you should not lie facing left or right.
5. You will be given a list of medicines to use for a week. You should use these medications as directed.
6. Your nose will not be dressed for 1 week.
7. You should replace the gauze put in front of your nose when it gets dirty.
8. You can usually breathe easily through your nose due to the drugs applied on the first day. After the second day, your nose will begin to swell internally and externally. During this time, your nose will be blocked and you should continue cleaning. However, you may not be able to breathe easily through your nose for the first 4 days.
9. Generally, swelling and bruising are not common on the first day. The following day, some patients experience swelling and may continue until Day 3. Bruises can be seen above and below the eyes. After the third day, swelling and bruising begin to decrease rapidly and become almost non-existent the end of the tenth day.
For the first four days there may be a pinkish discharge from your nose. If bright red and non-stop bleeding occurs, you should contact your doctor.
10. You should not use medication given from others, you should use only medicines that are prescribed for you
11. We don’t use nasal tampon on the majority of our patients. But whether we use a tampon or not, there will be a nasal congestion due to swelling for the first four or five days.
12. We make our first check on the 5-7th day after the operation. Meanwhile, the splint on the dorsum of the nose, the sutures on the tip of the nose and, if there are any, nasal tampons are removed. Dorsum of the nose will be bandaged and will remain bandaged for a week.
13. For the closed approach , you will not need to remove the stitches. It will be absorbed by the time.
14. We recommend our patients to spend the first three days at home, not staying in bed for all the time, but taking care of themselves. From the fourth day, you can go to market or outside without getting tired.
15. After the operation day, you can take a shower with assistance. But be careful, nasal bandage should not get wet.
16. The earliest time to return to work is one week after the surgery. Patients who want to start work after the first week, can go to work with bandages on noses.
17. Our patients have no restrictions on eating and drinking since the first day after the operation. Except for some special cases, no diet will be applied.
18. The second reassessment after the operation is done in the second week. At this reassessment, bandages applied in the first week are removed and there are not any bandages left on nose. In the second week, you will continue nasal cleaning with saline.
19. Other medications will no longer be used.
20. In the second week, you can shower, and wash your face with bandages on your nose.
21. In the first two weeks, depending on your nasal skin, there may be oily skin, flaking and acne increase. Usually these reactions resolve spontaneously. If it continues, help can be obtained from a dermatologist.
22.Nasal congestion may occur from time to time in the first three months depending on the swelling of your inside nose. However, as the weeks pass, the edema will decrease from inside and outside of the nose, and your nose will begin to breathe more easily and will look thinner from the outside.
23. It is useful to avoid excessive facial expressions in the first month after surgery. In this process, the wounds should be given an opportunity to close.
24.You can apply make-up with skin cleaning and care, when we taking the bandages off your nose after the second week,
25. Your relatives and friends who know that you have got a rhinoplasty can be look over your nose from all aspects and examine it in a detail. They can confuse you by saying various things in every respect. During this process, regardless of these and you should focus only on what your doctor is saying, and your recovery process.
26. Edema will be evident in the first six months, especially in patients with thick skin. These people should be awareof this and be patient. It takes two years for the thick-skinned patients to recover and get the final shape of the nose.
27. When a condition requiring revision after surgery occurs, it is necessary to pass one year in patients with normal skin and two years in thick-skin patients to get it revised.
28. Basic sports such as brisk walking can be done from the second week after the operation.However, a month should pass for heavy sports.
29. The hat should be worn until the color changes and bruises on you face completely heal and you should have your face protected from the sun light.
It is ideal for patients who wear glasses to get used to the lens before surgery and wear lenses for the first six months after surgery. However, patients who cannot use lenses can use glasses thatare light and do not cause pressure on dorsum after the second month.
30. It is important for patients not to swim in pool in the first month after the operation to prevent infection. After a month, you can swim in the pool.
31. In long term sunbathing, it will be appropriate for our patients to cover their faces with a hat or towel.
32. High temperature activities such as Turkish bath, sauna are not suitable for the first three months.
33. Your reexaminations after the operation are performed in the 1st, 2nd and 6th week, 3rd and 6th month, 1st year and 2nd year.
34. During the following period change is slower and more permanent. It takes 1 year for the patients with thin and normal skin to get the final shape of their nose, while it can last for two years for the patients with thick skin.
